The Zell am See area is one of the most popular locations in Austria. It lies directly in the heart of Salzburgland and it offers a whole range of benefits for an active or relaxing holiday. In the middle there is the Zeller See lake with crystal clear water suitable for swimming after the all-day activities. The whole area is unique for undemanding alpine hiking, whether in the valley of the Salzach river or on the hillsides of the surrounding mountains. Worth mentioning is a visit to a picturesque Rauris valley, ascents to the massif of the Hohe Tauern National Park and hiking in the Saalbach – Leogang area.
Special attention can be paid to the Hochkönig massif or to the ascent to the Grossglockner. A great attraction is a visit to the alpine dams – the Tauernkraftwerke Glockner – Kaprun waterworks. It is a system of two reservoirs in the height of 2040m with the surrounding ridges over 3000m. Within available distance one can visit the Sigmund Thun Klamm pass or the Krimmler Waserfalle waterfalls.
In addition to hiking, this area is equally suitable for cycling – whether recreational or sports, whether mountain or road. In the surroundings there are about 240km of cycle paths, free-riding or challenging tracks. The 12-kilometre descent from the Alpin centre or free-riding trails in Kaprun is considered to be the the best location. The Mecca for bikers is the time-accessible Leogang, where one of the largest bike parks in the world is found. For families with children or lovers of recreational cycling the ideal is the location of the plateau from Zell am See to Krimml or the area round the Zeeler See lake to Saalfelden or Maria Alm. A local railway line runs through the entire valley of the Salzach River.
For road cycling lovers there are circuits through Dienten, Loffer or exits to the dams or the Grossglockner. A beautiful ride to the Rauris valley should not be missed!
The location is very suitable for rest and relaxation after skiing,a walk or a ride by the water. Whether indoors in Tauern Spa or outdoors in the Zeeler See lakeor in the outdoor swimming pool Piesendorf or Uttendorf.
In the winter you can use about 408 km of slopes and 120 cable cars.
The availability of the Schmittenhöhe and Kitzsteinhorn golf courses is also an advantage.
